The rise of the oversize American Casket Coffin

Over the years of running comparethecoffin.com we have sold a lot of American style caskets. These caskets are usually one fixed size.

So that the size can fit the everyday person the internal cushioned lining is adjustable.

These casket are quite large and usually can fit someone up to 6 foot 4 inches or about 195 cm – 12 inches in a foot, and one inch is 2.54cm for the younger members of the audience.

Width of American caskets is usually 22, 23 or 24 inches and for the majority of people this is going to be absolutely fine.

We have a spate of requests where we have been requested to supply caskets with widths of 26 inches, 28 inches, 30 inches, and above. 35 inches, 37 inches and the largest lately is 39 inches wide.

These super oversize casket are still a very niche market with very few suppliers manufacturing units to these specifications, and even fewer wholesalers importing them into the UK.

The appropriately name Goliath Caskets in the USA does make these very large coffin caskets. The lids to these are so heavy that they are often supported via a hydraulic strut, similar to the tail gate on a large hatch back SUV.

As you might imagine the cost of these caskets in very high indeed, and not cheap. Upwards of £5000 pounds is not unusual.

We have found a much cheap and simpler alternative. We are able to manufacture made to order caskets in Oak and Oak Veneer for a fraction of the cost. We can do finishes in wood stains or any standard solid colour.

The caskets come complete with all the appropriate furniture, nameplate, lining, and cushion.
